Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook today to pen a heartfelt letter to newborn daughter, Max. Within the body of the letter, Zuckerberg sets out to explore the positives and negatives of the world that he and wife Priscilla Chan will be raising Max in.
In it, the two — through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative — pledged 99 percent of their Facebook shares over their lifetimes to making progress on the points outlined within the letter.
The current value of those shares? $45 billion.
The letter explores hope in the fact that technology is bridging divides between cultures, curing disease and making it possible to at least envision a world without poverty.
He also notes the things we need to work on, such as better allocation of research money aimed at preventing disease, rather than just throwing money where the profit is, in treating it.
The letter touched on how to progress as a species by advancing human potential, promoting equality and ensuring the underrepresented have a voice.
He aims to complete these tasks through engagement in the community, longer term investments in the future and participating in policy and advocacy to help shape the narrative around the issues we're currently facing.
Change won't be easy, but it appears Zuckerberg and Chan are willing to put their money where their mouth is and lead the way. Kudos.

(Updated 11:36 a.m.) After being a strong contender in the talent show X-Factor UK for several weeks, all-Filipino girl group 4th Impact was eliminated from the show on Sunday, Nov. 29 (Monday morning, Nov. 30 in Manila)
Sisters Mylene, Celina, Irene and Almira were at the Bottom 2 with Lauren Murray from the Girls Category.
4th Impact performed Broadway classic “And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going” to fight for their place in the Top 4, while Murray showcased her rendition of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love."
Judges were divided between the two acts, with Simon Cowell and Chery Fernandez-Versini voting for 4th Impact, and Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw voting for Murray.
The public were then made to decide who they like to stay in the competition, and 4th Impact got the lowest number of votes, making them the ninth act to leave X-Factor UK.
Advancing in the competition are Lauren Murray, Che Chesterman, Louisa Johnson, and Reggie ‘N’ Bollie.
The girls thanked their fans for supporting them throughout their X-Factor journey, and assured everyone that Celina is fine after after she collapsed unconscious off-camera. The Mirror Online reported that Celina received treatment from the show's paramedics.
Versini and Ora also wished the girls all the best for their musical career.
(Updated 9:29 a.m.) Maria Theresa Hernandez, mother of online personality Angelica Jane Yap a.k.a. Pastillas Girl, was shot and killed Sunday evening in Caloocan City, a report on Unang Balita on Monday said.
Hernandez was shot at close range by a gunman wearing a cap, jacket and shorts at the corner of Tagaytay Street and Cabatuan Street in Brgy. 131 in Caloocan City.
The 43-year-old barangay kagawad Hernandez and two companions had just come from church, and were waiting for another companion at an eatery when the incident happened at past 9 p.m.
Prior to the shooting, the man was seen via CCTV walking near Hernandez who was in a white shirt. After five minutes, he fired the shot, hitting the right side of Hernandez's head.
The suspect quickly fled toward A. Bonifacio St. in Caloocan aboard a motorcycle.
According to Herman Domingo, owner of the eatery, before the suspect bought something inside his shop, he even said, "Ang ganda ni Ate. Pwedeng maging artista."
Yap was taken to the Chinese General Hospital, but the medical staff was unable to save her.
Meanwhile, police investigators recovered 9mm shells from the crime scene. They are conducting an investigation and are on the manhunt for the suspect.
Hernandez's daughter Yap is hoping for justice to be served.
